Apprenticeship?

I was just wondering about apprenticeships. Do you have to leave school if you get accepted for one? I won't be doing my Leaving Cert until next year but am I better off doing an apprenticeship or completing the Leaving Cert? Or is there a way to do both?
How much would you get paid for an apprenticeship? And generally how many years do they take to complete?
Also, I read somewhere that you can enter an Institute of Technology after the apprenticeship through FÁS. If you apply for an apprenticeship directly through the company, would it have anything to do with FÁS?

These might be simple questions but I couldn't find some information anywhere.
    Many thanks.

You will spend your work placement with your employer and do the rest in a FAS approved college.
