Extending driveway gates

I recently had the driveway widened by 0.5m and would like to continue to use the existing iron gates so one or both will need to be extended or modified. These are the original gates from a 1950's Dublin suburban build, I'm guessing wrought iron. They've been painted over several times but seem to be in reasonable condition.

What are the best options here - add a piece to one, cut and extend or just replace like-for-like? I'd like to maintain the look of the original gates if possible.

    Thanks.

It would be a pity to interfere with the original gates...so...keep the original/both gates as they are and simply add a additional 'panel' of steelwork (style to compliment the existing gates) to one of the gates, so when closed, you see the original gates + a middle panel. That's conservation architect approach coming out! :)

BTW, I hope you got planning permission to widen the existing entrance. ;)

    Hi,

anyone got any recommendations for a company in or around Dublin that can make new gates or extend existing ones..

Also, what's the benefit to getting gates galvanised and how much extra should I expect to pay for this?

    thanks
