Flying Ryanair and not checking in any luggage. Hoping to bring my camera bag which is no problem but also want to bring my tripod ( manfrotto 055xprob) attached to the side. Has anybody got any experience with ryanair regarding tripods?

I carried mine in my hand back from Sardinia (via London) and had no issues with Ryanair on either flight. I had it in a checked suitcase on the way out but that was full of wine bottles on the way back. :)

My boyfriend had one in his hand luggage a few years back heading back from Lanzarote and they wouldn't let him take it on board, maybe they've relaxed the rules since then though.

If it fits in the luggage size tester at the gate along with your bag then you won't have any trouble. The 055 is too long I'd imagine. I wouldn't bring mine carry on. You're better off investing in a smaller tripod for traveling with. You could also try carrying it with your jacket around it so they don't notice it.

My issues in the past have not been with the airlines but with airport security who have previously sent me back to check it in.
