They had to cancel at the last minute due to the water supplies not arriving. Now it's not a big deal to run a half without water, but most people would certainly prefer to have water on the way round. Once the race is over 10km distance though they had no choice but to cancel if they don't have water supplies or their insurance would be invalid so not worth the risk.

I'd still have run if I was at the start line though.

Alarming that they left water delivery to the morning of the race  You don't use fingers-crossed methods if you're directing a major race.

Seems a few thousand took things into their own hands and ran it anyway. Locals bought water in shops and started handing it out to the runnners. Nice to see that.

What numbers were expected in this?
How easy would it have been to clear out the local Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Asdas, etc of their small water bottles and delay the start by an hour!

    5000, I think I saw somewhere.
Or just tell people the situation and offer them the option of proceeding at their own "risk".

The idea of the roadblocks is gas, sort of a running version of Vanishing Point:D

5000 people isn't that much so raiding the several massive supermarkets should have given enough to cover one bottle each at a couple of water stations. If they were just organised enough to have realised the issue the night before I'm sure a call to Tesco and Sainsbury head offices would result in the needed supplies turning up. Especially if you tell them that the other stores have already promised some supplies.

Bet someone in the organising committee had forgotten to actually order the water in the first place though and just assumed that it was someone else's job.

Pretty over the top reaction and comments on that Facebook page. I know it's a screw up and shouldn't have happened but words like "disgusting" are completely over the top. It was a race that shouldn't have been cancelled, not a massacre.

Yes the company dropped the ball but I thought the people who ran were foolish. Someone said more people collapsed than in the Manchester Half. Quite frankly they only have themselves to blame.

They were not properly trained I'd say then. I'd not be recording a pb in those conditions due to being a bit distracted with the situation, but nobody should really be collapsing due to limited water supplies in a half.

From the Facebook page, it seems like a lot of them didn't even know the race was cancelled and just followed the leading runners. Some of them found out a couple of miles into it, some found out at the end. What a shambles.

I saw a guy on the news getting interviewed with a medal around his neck. How did anyone get a medal if it was cancelled? Seems pretty shambolic alright!

People on the internets saying medals and tees still given out. The people at the finish line probably didn't know it was cancelled either!
