Just curious but I'm wondering what's easier to get between a .22 or a .17 hmr
Only be using them for vermin.

I couldn't see one being "easier" than the other to obtain a license for (if its a license you mean) They're both rimfires , is it a .22lr or .22wmr ?? As long as you have the valid reasons and paperwork along with security requirements then theres no reason you wouldn't get whichever you prefer !

If its ammunition you mean , every shop has at least 1 brand of HMR , if not 3. The WMR has been around a lot longer and theres always a few different types to choose from in almost every shop.

Well I was thinking of a wmr. Although I can't see many for sale on shop pages but plenty of .17 hmr.
How much we talking for ammo in both guns?

Always go for what you want not what u can get !! Valid paper work and safe and valid reason for firearm then no reason why not !! Best if luck !!

I've heard good things if the wmr in terms of range and power. But I also shot a .17hmr and kinda fell in love with it.
What would you recommend. Both will be used for rabbits, crows, and fox but the hmr has the range advantage on fox aswell

Ive seen WMR ammo for as little as €12 and as expensive as €24 per 50

HMR can be got for €16 per 50 for Federal ,the Hornady stuff is around €18

Id go HMR, Ive converted a few of the lads in the gun club to them. One lad even subbed down from a .22 hornet for one. The HMR is here to stay and is only getting more popular.

I've had a hmr and tbh I never did much shooting with it a few rabbits and a fox!! Just bought a 22 hornett as the father has a lover cz and I went for the 527 model ! Love the hornet maybe cause I'm used to it tho !!

You'd pick up a wmr these days second hand for feck all, but if you decide to sell it you'll be waiting a while, dealers barely want them as trade in because the hmr is much more popular and sells faster.

Wmr ammo is getting as expensive if not more than the hmr stuff now. 30gr vmax are the same price as 17gr vmax at €18

The wmr isnt as accurate at 100 yards but it carries a bit more energy than the hmr till around 80 yards.

Its more effected by wind than the hmr and it drops like a stone. The hmr is flat from around 40-100 and the wmr drops about 2 inches.

The wmr is a not as loud as the hmr but the hmr can be moderated very well to take away a lot of the bang.

Ive used a friends wmr for years and when it came down to buying my own rimfire I went for the hmr and never once regretted it. the flatter longer range is a lot easier for longer shots and they can be resold easily.

I've looked online in stores and seen very few of both guns.
How much would I be looking to to pay for a .17hmr full set up like decent scope etc?

are you looking for new or second hand?

I have a new nikko sterling 30mm 4-16x50 scope that cost €200 and its all the scope I'll ever need on the gun can see out passed 300 yards under the lamp so I couldnt justify spending any more when a rimfire wont be needed like that.

Ive had sportsmatch mounts and hawke mounts ranging from €25-50 and never had issues holding zero.

A SAK mod is €60 and a new lightweight atec one is €80.

Then you have the gun, think cz455's are about 550- 600 new.

I bought a CZ 455 thumbhole Varmint a few months ago from Paul O Hollaran His cash price is €550 the cheapest CZ455 thumbhole I found in the country. with 16 or 20 inch barrel. The scope and accessories like the mod and bipod are as much as you are willing to pay weather or not you go for bottom mid or top of the range products

One of my friends bought a Marlin 917 I think it was €360 brand new. It aint pretty but its as accurate as my Cz - all 5 shots touching at 100 yards. Scope is going to be whatever you want to pay- he had a Hawke 3-9x 50 which was €160, a SAK mod for €60 and a bipod for €70 . So thats probably the cheapest brand new setup you can get without a cleaning kit and ammo. €650 is what your talking about for his set up.

That would be the price of a new Cz 455 alone

My own is a little different. I have a Cz452 with a Centerpoint 4-16x40 , JLS mod and a Shooters Ridge Bipod. I also got work done on the stock so the barrel is free floating. My set up cost just over €1100 but to be honest I only put that money into it because Ill never be getting rid of it !

Havin a look at a .22 Bruno magnum tomoro. Turns out my boss was big into the hunting but he's no time so is selling all his guns and I have the Bruno eyed up.
Are they harder to get licence for than a standard .22.
My dad has a magnum and they do a fair oul damage at 70 yards.

For what it's worth, I've had both 22 magnum and 17 hmr in the past. If I was getting one again I wouldn't even bother looking at the magnum.

yes! I had both 22 magnum and 17 hmr to, 22 magnum it's ok to 150 yrd max. .17HMR is going to be more accurate at distances out to 200 yds. The light bullet however is going to be more affected by wind than the .22wmr. The .22wmr has more impact power and would penetrated deeper (due to increased mass) but is less accurate out beyond 75yds.

Wmr is a good round, its personal choice at the end of the day.

    little

of course is good,of cours is personal choice :) ,speaking only of my experiments.
my experience and my choice tells me- .17hmr more fun :) , .22wmr more effective at a shorter distance :)
