New Titleist Wedges

SM5s came out there recently. It seems they have new grooves, and now come in a load of different sole/grind options. Some are flattened, some rounded, some fat, slip etc as well as the usual bounce options.

Looks interesting, though tbh I probably wouldn't care if my current wedges weren't just about worn out.

Has anyone tried the new ones? Can't really find any decent reviews online, though I'm googling on a phone.

From what I've heard they are supposed to be very good, no surprise really, have they ever made bad ones? So many options though, so unless your going to just go with the same specs as your old ones it might be hard to know what to get.

    Have a 56 - 10 ordered - M grind.

Had to just go by feel.

Here is a good guide. The whole grind area is getting even more complex - ideally you would need to try wedges around a green and is there somewhere in Ireland you can do that - I've seen and used ranges to test clubs - but a short game area ?

Fitting at a place with a proper short game area would be brilliant.

I think it is a bit much for my level.

Just have come around to bounce and how this suits my game and certain courses and what I'm using it for.

But this is a bit too much for my little head :)

would have thought gui academy at carton would be best spot. Large short game area & the titleist fitting centre attached. Not sure how much access you'd gst to the short game section with a new set of their wedges in your hands though

Yes was thinking there too space.

Had to just hit it off a bloody range mat. lets be honest - there is at least 20 shots and lies you have to try a wedge from.

So pot luck in a way.

I'm gonna get two/three of these but will get fitted.

I did try to call the Titleist center in Carton House but i couldn't find a direct line number to the Titleist section and my phone call message and then email was not returned.
I got some stuff from Foregolf last year and i'm getting a quote from them based on my specs but might give Birr a go this time.

As far as I know you can't book direct with Titleist in Carton, it has to be through your pro (or any pro I guess). That was definitely the case up to a year or two ago anyway, might have changed since the new guy went in.

Ya, I think they've ventured into "overkill" territory tbh.

Agree. Most players don't know what bounce suits them nevermind now having to think about 5/6 grind options. Silly.

When i rang Carton the guy on the phone said they would pass my query onto the Titleist center he didn't say i couldn't arrange directly. No big deal - maybe they are busy and i will get a callback....

True enough. They may well take bookings directly now, not sure how you'd pay though, unless they've also started accepting cash onsite.

I was at the golf skills event out there last year & they had one of the fitting guys out on the putting green with a bag full of different scottys. Pretty sure he said that it was still referral via a pro. Things may have changed in last couple of months though

Had a look at these the other day (just in my hand) and they look like a nice solid wedge, does what it says on the tin etc

It seems they're pushing for wedge fitting now with all the grinds, its probably a good thing for your game but for your average hacker like me its a bit too much on the choices. The local pro said they're a good wedge but still can't make up the difference from the now illegal grooves (in pro's)

Bookings to the Titleist Fitting Center must go through an Acushnet account holder.
