Good card at Fairyhouse today along with a couple of contests across the water so might as well open a thread for this afternoons action.

Bah, bet Burn and Turn in the 2nd race - NON RUNNER :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

4 I'm going to play with today for small stakes. 4.20 Fairyhouse looks the best race of the day. Wicklow brave looks a little short in the betting at evs on ground he may not like. His 6th in the supreme is the best form on offer but I'm going to have a bet in the market without wicklow brave on empire of dirt @ 9/1. That price looks too big imo & I don't have him much behind reel steel who is carrying a 6lb penalty.

Meaureofmydreams has the best bumper form imo at fairyhouse, with a host of winners from each race he has contested so 5/2 will do for me given he represents the best team in this sphere.

Spartan angle runs in div 1 bumper at market raisen. She's already bagged a bumper, albeit 2 yrs ago so I presume she's had a few issues (as fillies & mares are wone to :)). Not easy to carry & win with a penalty but the henderson team are in good fettle so I'll stick with her @ 3/1. In division II, I've found it hard to separate the first two. The fav represents alan king who bagged the mares listed bumper at aintree, is by kings theatre and already has a good run under her belt (albeit on aw) where she was trapped wide before running on strongly in the straight. However, the field that day consisted of ordinary enough opposition so I'm going to take a chance on cresswell breeze who also held an entry for the listed race at aintree & gets 6lbs from the fav. The jockey takes a further 3lbs off & she is 1 for 1 at bumpers at the track, & the trainer is 3 from 3 with nhf at the track. She'll need to be decent enough to overturn the fav but at 3/1, is worth a shot imo. Going to back each of those last three named in singles/cross doubles & a treble for small stakes.

    Good luck today.

Had a small bet on Ballyorban (16/1) in the 3:30 at Cork, down to a workable handicap mark, will like the ground and has won fresh before. Sun On The Run went into a lot of notebooks after his last run but looks way too short at the top of the market.

Remember You looks great value at 12/1 for the 2:55 listed race at Cork.

Won his maiden over course and distance before finishing close up behind Great White Eagle twice (including a length second in a group 3 at the curragh)

He's getting weight off everything else in the race (24lbs off the fav) and he's likely to have improved from a 2yo to a 3yo.

Going for Lieutenant Colonel in that one. Hot race but I think he's overpriced @ 13/2 (Hills). Value bet for me; I might consider reinvesting any proceeds if I get a return on that bet in Wicklow Brave - the form lines would tie in nicely.

Are you sure about the "host of winners from each race he has contested" bit? Can't see that the form of his races has been franked all that much although you'd still be wary of a Mullins runner. Think Martello Towers Fairyhouse win last year is the standout form on offer and the recent hurdles spin will have put him right. Albeit the price isn't all that enticing

Only 1 bet for me today, Canary Row @ 6/1 in the 3:30. This one was close last time out against a heavy going specialist, hopefully it can get the result today.

Looking forward to the return of the mighty Maarek today at Cork. Evanna McCutcheon has now gotten herself a trainer's license (was effectively trainer last year but ran under the name of Barry Lalor) and I'd say she'll be looking to get a victory on the board today. 7/4 seems a very fair price but he's not a lump jump or anything like that.

Got burnt when he rode in Cork the last time. Still, should beat these. That race in France always reminds me of the last time in Cork. Who would have thought he would win in France after his last cork race.

Shamiran could have a squeak in the next at Fairyhouse. 20/1 seems big enough

Backed Arctic on ground he loves in the listed race at Cork 16/1

Just ran into a well handicapped one there. Happy enough with the e-way returns

Sendmylovetorose (16/1) on its first run for Halford would have a chance if he can get it back to the form it showed as a juvenile plus the ground shouldnt be a problem

Love Maarek but is opposable today. Scream Blue Murder is a few pounds inferior but Stack's horses are well forward and running well and looks a fair ew bet to nothing

Good point. I stand corrected. Had a quick look am at both races & recognised the names of those around him rather than double checking each result (I'll put that weakness of mind this morning down to the dirty head cold I have). Ballagh (4th) won nto from his first race & from the next, missyspet has run well allbeit against her own sex. The rest look ordinary. But his last win was quite impressive (visually). Form not as strong as I thought. Timeforapint was my initial choice but I reckon he might need good ground (if he fails to win today, punchestown is surely on the agenda). Wouldn't put you off the fav martello tower

Season reappearance over heavy ground, it was always asking a lot for it to win.

No worries, wasnt 100% certain myself so was more of a query really. Timeforapint is interesting but think price is a bit skinny. Opposing Wille Mullins in these races isn't for the faint-hearted but Robbie Mac on the Connell horse will probably tempt me enough nearer the off!

Well, top 3 in market were all making reappearance and opposition looked weak enough otherwise. Winner had race fitness so it was obviously a factor alright

Another decent week for Dessie Hughes and that's without his main jockey, Bryan Cooper.

Can anybody explain to me how good a horse Wicklow brave is please? I had it in my not very knowledgable head that he was a pretty top class horse but today seems to show I was well wrong. Was today a blip for him or is he just not as good as I thought?

He would be short of top class I would say but its just some horses come out of Cheltenham better than others. The winner was behind Wicklow Brave in the Supreme not far behind though but surely can't have that as Wicklow Braves true running.

Just watched the Aga Khan filly win the last there Urban, flew through the ground and wasn't really pushed right out either. Was levels coming into the last 2 1/2 f so put that much distance between herself and the Bolger horse was very impressive.

    Placed @14/1
Was expecting a bit more, but can't complain with place money.
