Amazon.co.uk shipping price increase???

Guys, can anyone tell me is this correct or just an error on my end..

Im trying to buy a bluray from amazon.co.uk and its coming in under €25 (so no free delivery) but they are charging me £4.58 , it used to be only £1.85 to post so has there shipping charges more than double or what the heck is going on??

Iv tried buy 2-3 different blurays but the price is still coming in at £4.58

Not sure where that delivery cost is comming from but why not buy a little something extra to bring it up over 25 and get the free delivery?

its only one is was looking at for the mo but was more than a bit surprised when i seen the price they were charging, I know royal mail are increasing costs but amazon more than doubling the costs is a bit rich even for them....

Although looking at their rates chart for Ireland it seem any dvd/bluray is now £4.30, surely that cannot be right?

Yeah I think Amazon packages are considered parcels so cost more but you're right 4.30 is a scandalous price for delivery for a DVD sized package! It could be couriered for that so it's a way of making things appear cheaper than they actually are while gouging on the P&P.
Get something else to bump it to £25.

Been chatting to amazon on their facebook page and they maintain that the price is correct even thought iv tried to point out to them that the price varies depending on what bluray you buy, basically told me to buy add something else to the order and make it over £25 for free delivery (what a shower of wasters)

Perhaps some are in different boxes so could be posted cheaper, a 1mm reduction in depth could possibly be a hugely different price, even if it weighs more.

The first one is a 4 disk set with some extras including a small book. presumably the box it comes in is bigger than a regular blu-ray. the second is a steelbook which are generally heavier/bigger than a standard blu-ray. I'm not seeing the mystery here.

Been buying dvd/blurays of all different weighs and sizes from amazon for 10 years or so and never been charged anything more than £1.78 or so, so theres some sort of a mystery here....

Any even so £4.61 to post a steelbook is very dear, most people in uk can post a single steelbook to Ireland for £3-£3.50

A steelbook weight in the region of 300g. Plugging that weight into http://www.royalmail.com/price-finder gives a shipping cost of £5. A normal bluray is around 100g and costs jsut over £3 according to that link. I think that explains the difference

amazon must have realized they were taking a hugh loss at £1.76 or so and raised the prices - but if this is the case they are still taking a hugh hit on free delivery over £25 as you could potentially have 2 or more items to bulk up the price to over £25 which in turn would weigh a lot more and cost a lot more to post....

All well looks like im gonna have to revert back to the old ** trick then for cheap items...

The whole "free delivery" think is a misnomer. Its more like a bulk buying discount. You cannot simply expect them to charge postal costs.

An item may cost £10 to them, it might be £5 shipping, it might cost £5 in admin fees. If you buy 2 the items are £20, shipping usually does not double, it might be £7, then admin fees are probably the same, or slightly increased. Think about argos, a guy has to collect the goods, 2 in the same spot is quicker, but they do one transaction at the till.

I prefer upfront postage costs. If I get 1 items for £26 I get "free delivery", if I get 2 of them for £52 I get no further discount, even though their admin fees and postage fees & boxing fees are most probably less.

Customer services now inform me that they had a major increase in shipping rate s taking effect from the 04th April 2014....

Royal mail are heading the way of USPS with their high postal rates now....

Surely all that actually matters is the final price you pay? With the amazon way you know exactly how much that is, assuming you spend more than £25.

Obviously they are not giving you free delivery, the cost is built into their pricing model. Once i reach that £25 threshold i know exactly how much each additional item costs me. I dont have to check how much adding that item will increase postage by. I dont have to worry that adding an item will make the postage costs jump because the order is now too big to be sent as a package and now has to be sent as a parcel.

I would be expecting the prices to continue downwards. If the postage did increase I would expect the savings on admin costs or bulk buying & packaging to decrease more than the postage would increase.

I don't like all these masked costs, I would rather pay my way and not be subsidising others or being subsidised on my purchases.

I know it would complicate things. I would like to see product weights and live basket prices etc, I don't want to keep having to go to checkout to figure out postage, as you add things it should increase. Or have notices like "you can add 3 of this product to your basket and have no postage increase".

The way it is now the cost is built into the £25, so after your basket is £25 other prices should really drop.

e.g. item costs amazon £10, £5 profit, £5 admin & packaging, £5 postage -so I pay £25.

If I get 2 of that item they can double their profit and offer it to me cheaper per unit, 2x items they pay £10 for, admin & packaging is the same £5 or just a little more, not double. Post might be the same if it remains in the weight range, or increase slightly, but rarely doubles. At the moment amazon more than double their profit if I buy 2.

They could even keep the option of keeping it simple if you wish. Dealextreme sort of do this, if you are bulk buying stuff they suggest going to their sister site, which does charge postage.
