Cost of fixing car window?

The automated electrical control for the driver's side window on my honda jazz has stopped working properly. It works a bit but after I've opened the window I have to press gently and continually on the control to get it to close again fully. There is no manual handle to open and close the window so I'm worried it'll just jam one of these days!

Just wondering if there is any chance that this is covered under comprehensive insurance? And if not, what would be fair price to pay to get this fixed?

Do a bit off DIY first!! Guessing you'll just need a flat blade screw driver to pry out module, and then maybe small Philips head to disassemble, then just spray all contacts with switch cleaner and make sure all buttons are touching contacts, reassemble and plug in, make sure everything is clicked and tightened in place, test function before inserting back into door. Also check plug between bulk-Head and door, no harm in spraying those plugs with electrical contact cleaner either. Good Luck.

Just found this link, might not be for your particular problem!

Is car brand new and still under manufacturer's warranty?
It will not be covered by your insurance company.

Try closing the window fully then press the switch into the closed position and hold it till you hear a click from the door.

If that doesnt work get a tin of silicone spray and try spraying the guide rails.

I was reading up on this yesterday. Seems like Honda had some service bulletin/recall for something to keep the water out. Water getting into the switch pcb will corrode it. I don't think a new one is particularly cheap either.

As suggested, remove the whole thing and see if you can clean up the contacts. If you can't then it might be down to the breakers. Bear in mind the above bulletin and see if you have/haven't the water shield/boot or whatever it is.

It should be covered by Honda if it hasn't already been done under the recall.

Remove door card, operate window as normal while looking at the window reg and see where it is getting stuck. WD40 or similar lubricant and retry. Make sure wiring is neatly kept away from the module itself as it can get stuck. Failing the above steps, you might need a new reg which can be got online (Micks Garage)

Thanks all. I am clueless about fixing things myself and would be afraid I'd mess it up even more so I'm not sure I want to go unscrewing things. I might try if I can imagine how I might go about it!

I got a recall notice ages ago from Honda but haven't got round to going into them. It mentioned an electrical fault but I hadn't realised it was to do with window.
I'll give them a call and see if this is down to water issue.

Have to say that I've had very little trouble with this car in the four years I've had it, and I bought it second hand. So I can't complain too much.

To avoid another thread there is a second issue with wiring. The handbreak's ON signal comes on to my dashboard even when the handbreak is actually off. I think there must be a loose wire here?

Is this something to have looked at urgently?

Looks like handbreak signal might be low brake fluid.

I know it's all too easy to put things on the long finger, but they don't usually send recall stuff out for fun.

Do let us know the outcome of this.
