Ear pinning

Has anyone's child had their ears pinned? My ds has large ears that stick out/flop forward. He's starting school soon and I'm really worried about him getting bullied as he gets older. He's quite a sensitive boy already. When he was a baby our old doctor mentioned it to me (without me saying anything to her about his ears)

I think that the ears need to be fully grown first - if he's only starting school he might be a wee bit young?

I've read it's 5 or 6, there's a new procedure that only takes 15 mins and is a lot better than the old method. I'm not sure if they are doing it here yet though
