Hi, I have a van with sign writing on it for the past 3 years, can someone advise me on the best method to remove it without damaging the paintwork. Or is this a job better left to the people who carry out vehicle graphics?

I've removed sign writing of a serious amount of vans over the years. Glue remover/ tar remover is good. Spray it on and leave a few minutes and pull off the writing with your nails it should come of easy enough. Once it of the paint will need a good polish ideally machine polish paintwork should be perfect then and you won't see it's had sign writing if it's done right. Best of luck.

Good plan that melts the glue which gets left on the van and you still need some type of glue remover tar remover. A bottle of the stuff isn't going to break the bank along with a decent polish. If you do the job right you won't know the van has had sign writing any shortcuts it will look crap.

a kettle of boiling water, nothing like it to get the vinyl back supple and easy to peel off in one piece. wd40 for the residue.

You use the hairdryer to heat the glue before removing any lettering/graphics, this makes it easier to peel. Then you will need some type of solvent to remove the remaining glue. The whole vehicle will probably need a good buffing and polish after. If the graphics have been on a long time, and depending on the vehicle colour, you could have a 'shadow' of the graphics from sunlight fading the exposed paint work. This can be reduced by T-cutting the whole thing, and re-polishing. If you don't have the machinery, you may be prepared to put in plenty of elbow grease.

You would want to make sure you give it a good polish/wax after or something, because with about 90% of vans/buses that have the writing removed, you can see the traces of it when the light shines on it at an odd angle.
Edit: basically what yer man above said ^^. White especially seems to show the after traces.

Wurth Industry clean - aerosol cans, cheap enough and what the pro's use. Removes the vinyl and the residue. Good gear.

Hire out a wallpaper stripper out of your local hire centre. This works really fast.

I used my fingernails to take writing off this Hyundai, although you could see the writing of "Carpentry services" very faintly. Here it is half way through
