Buying new in Northern Ireland with Primary Medical Cert

Apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere. We are entitled to buy a new car VAT and VRT free, as my wife now holds a primary medical certificate. If we buy in ROI we pay the VAT at the time of purchase, then claim it back from revenue. But what happens (re VAT) if you buy new (for export) in NI or the UK? Many thanks

Here is a bit of leeway with the vat. A lot of garages will take the revenue cheque as part payment and mark the invoice as 'paid in full'
That was the case a few years ago anyway.

Buying up north would be an unnecessary complication IMO.

You actually but the car VAT free and get a balance of some or all VRT off as well.
Some dealers will in fact sell you the car with both off and you give them the refund cheque when it arrives.
Are you going to purchase as a driver or a passenger?
