Hi lads, the mobo on my old Dell XPS710 died on me, and as it's BTX there's no point throwing good money after bad. I've salvaged a few parts from it, and I'm looking for some input on the new mobo in particular - I intend to start with a mild overclock with a bit more in future, but I'm not sure if this mobo is overkill in this build.

    1. What is your budget? [€700, lower is better]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming (Skyrim, Civ V, Crysis), some light video/audio editing, general use

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [No]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Yes,a few components:

    ASUS ATI HD7850-DC2-2GD5 PCIe
    DVD drive
    Card reader
    Monitor
    Keyboard/Mouse/Speakers

    5. Do you need a monitor? [No]

5a. If yes, what size do you need. [n/a]

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [1680 x 1050, but intend to upgrated to 1920x1080 sometime down the line]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Just wireless card, included it in the build]

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [Yes, intend to overclock]

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card]

    9. When are you purchasing? [In the next week]

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [No help needed]

    Item|Price
    Intel Core i5-4670K Box, LGA1150|€203.83
    8GB G.Skill RipJaws-X PC3-12800U CL9|€65.80
Samsung SSD 840 EVO Basic 250GB SATA 6Gb/s|€114.99
Corsair Carbide Series 200R, ATX, ohne Netzteil|€50.96
    ASRock Z87 Extreme4, Sockel 1150, ATX|€117.09
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - Intel/AMD|€30.67
be quiet! PURE POWER L8 500W|€58.42
    ASUS PCE-N15|€14.90
    WD Blue 1TB 6Gb's|€49.17
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€724.84

Running the build through geizhals, it comes to €695.96. I don't want to cut something that will have a large impact for the sake of a few quid, but if there is any fat here to be trimmed, I'd love your feedback.

    Cheers.

First of all you will get a corsair 600w modular for that price. Or a corsair 500 w for 50. That said I like the be quiet.

Get the corsair low profile ram. 64.

Could Forget the overclocking and just go Xeon 1230 v ... Then cut the board down to a h87.

you have picked good value parts without compromising overall build quality. Personally I wouldn't want to. Yes the mobo could still be chopped down using the I5.

If you're not planning on going SLI/CF in the future, you can drop down to the Pro3/4, and that should save you a decent amount. Other than that I wouldn't change much. It's a very solid build as-is.
