hi, ive have had my old sony bravia flatscreen for about 6 years now and wanted to upgrade to a smart tv. Im looking for a 3d tv as ive a large selection of 3d blue rays.

size wise the bigger the better aswell. 47" - 50" would be good. it must have at least 3 hdmi connections, one usb 2.0 and also Netflix compatible.

anyone able to suggest anything that meets all these criteria? Budget is in an around €1,000. Many thanks

ok decided to push the boat out a little and spend more. now looking at three 55" Samsungs. heres the three that im looking at

    Samsung F6740 - €1699

    Samsung F7000 - €1799

    Samsung F8000 - €1999

can anyone tell me the major differences between the three. is the €300 price difference worth it? The main difference seems to be the motion clarity. 500,800 & 1000mhz.
how importants that? is the smart menu system compatible with sky?
could I just plug in a regular usb external drive and play movies off that on them?

probably gonna go with the middle of the road one for myself, but any advice would be welcome.

The motion clarity, or "clear motion rate" as samsung like to call it, is mostly marketing jargon IMO. It's the native hz of the panel that's important. Many TVs that claim to be 200hz etc usually only have a native 50 or 100hz panel and use processing to come to the claimed figure. The problem with processing this is that it often introduces artifacts and ghosting or else the "soap opera effect" when turned on.

Both the f7000 and f8000 have a native 200 hz panel and both are very good and very nice TV's. However if smart features aren't a major priority, the equivalent Sony wins in the picture quality department IMO.

    I have the Samsung 6800.

Yes, you can plug in USB stick or hard drive to play stuff. Can also pause/record to USB device, make sure its not the same one though, it may format and scrub your data before it records!

Built in Freesat compatible tuner is handy. This means setting up as UK location though, which means that channel list for Saorview gets screwed up. Fairy easily sorted.

Picture quality is fine for me, but I'm no connoisseur. The 3D works well, would be better on a bigger screen though - mine is only 42". Need a dark room or flicker from any other light sources can be annoying with the active 3D glasses. The facility to render 2Ď content in 3D is as you can imagine, meh.

Don't know how important the Smart Tv side of things is for you but you could be disappointed. You are very limited in what apps you can run. Fine for Netflix, certainly wouldn't use it as a browser. Any add ons such as keyboard or webcam come at a premium.

For Smart functionality, much better use an external box or Android TV stick where you have much more control over apps etc.

F7000 and F8000 have dual satellite and aeriel tuners - so u can record one and watch another, even without a Sky box. The F8000 has better sound I understand.

If you are into console gaming then it would be worth while factoring in Input Lag into your decision

    http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag

Sony's have the lowest input lag available on LED tv tech.

thanks for the feedback everyone. have been reading a few reviews and things online in relation to this. the Samsung f7000 apparently has noticeably worse sound than the f8000.
with regards to the smart tv part, all I really want is Netflix built in and the ability to play from USB. Anything other than that's a bonus.

This is going to be used a lot for the ps3 and ps4 so lags something else ill have to do more homework on.

I did go looking and found a sony 60" plasma in Harvey normans for 1999. But I just think that id be better off with the led for console gaming. The Sony model is the KDL60W855BBU

What I also found in currys was this beauty though the SONY BRAVIA KDL55W905

Its definitely the front runner for me now. The reviews seem very positive online for it. All that's left is to actually go into the shops and see them in person.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Appreciate it.
