Hi I have an a 10speed 6700 ultegra spec bike with an 52-36 FSA crankset. I want to change out the FSA crankset with a 53-39 Ultegra crankset as its worn.

Do I need to purchase a Shimano bottom bracket to install the ultegra crankset?
I have purchased the crankset and grease but are there additional items needed to do the job? Do I need to purchase a shimano screw to tighten the crank? Someone might list what else I need for the job.

I will do this myself but just making sure I have everything before I proceed.

    Thanks in advance.

For me I'd buy a shimano bb because your FSA bb probably doesn't have much life life based on the chainset been worn.

However a quick search and the internet says yes to compatibility although that depends on what model the FSA is???

From what I remember grease, Allen keys is all you really need. There is then a plastic washer to go into the end of the non drive side which requires a special tool ( see below):

See attached for more info on how to fit and what's required

20140405_134135.jpg (sorry photos are huge! and cant remember how to reduce the size.).

Will Shimano tool work on this crankset? If not could someone send me a link to a tool I need to take this off. I will purchase it online or LBS.

What Bottom bracket do I need to fit my new 53-39 Ultegra Crankset? I will change everything while im at it.

All I have at the moment are the Crankset, grease and allen keys.

    Thanks.

Have you a link to the bikes specs? Is it a felt?

Hollowtech bottom bracket for the ultegra, choose the thread type http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/shimano-ultegra-6700-6703-bottom-bracket/rp-prod38998

And this is the tool for it http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/cyclo-hollowtech-ii-bottom-bracket-tool/rp-prod42809

I would advise to get your lbs to fit it correctly if you havent done it before.

I'd say keep on using your FSA BB if it is still going strong. You will definitely need the appropriate tools to install the cranks and swap out the BB, but it's a very simple operation which should be well within the grasp of anyone who understands the difference between clockwise and anti-clockwise. The item mamax links to has the two necessary tools for installing the crankset and the BB respectively.

These tools will install the ultegra crankset and BB but im just making sure do these tools remove the fsa crankset and BB?

Your crank arm appears to have a self-extracting bolt. Simply turn the bolt anti-clockwise (there may be some resistance) and it will pull the left crank arm off. Then simply push the spindle-crank assembly out. If it's stuck, give it a gentle tap with a rubber mallet.

The Hollowtech II BB tool will work on your current BB.

you could replace the chainrings on the FSA

    Why are you going from a 52 to a 53? :|

    ..or is it purely cosmetic/aesthetic?

Both. Racing is the main reason and i like the ultegra crankset. The crankset on at the moment looks like a piece of s**t and is worn.

Will it be tougher having the 53 on now instead of 52 or will i notice anything?
