Lads I was agitating today, the slurry is really thick with lumps of silage through it for good measure. The tractor is under awful pressure as its only 85hp.
during agitating I lifted the agitator out of the tank to see if their was any netting/hay blocking it, I noticed that the bottom of the shaft just above the imprelor was very very hot, is this normal ?
    (The agitator is brand new)

Add water for a start, if you had 185 hp it would still need it to make the job doable in reasonable time . Also make sure the PTO is in 540, not 1000 speed.

    Thanks,
I`ll try that in the morning, I`m just worried that the agitator being new might have a bad bearing some-place in it which is causing the fierce pressure on the tractor

No silage blocking hole that let's cooling water through

what make of agitator ? Usually just a rubber "bearing" at the bottom of the shaft. If the muck is that thick, impelled usually just whizzes away and pumps nothing.

Id say you just need more water . I find that letting a tank of water down ontop of the agitator when its mixing will usually get things moving a bit easier

Ya to above,or add pig slurry if you can get it. Far better to help with agitating and obviously has higher nutrient value. Silage a lot drier this year so slurry is not as liquid as other years. Had you any water/pig slurry in tank before winter started?
Also, keep eye on water level in radiator of tractor.
