Insurance is a must nowadays with all these expensive smart phones on the market.
So lets say you dropped your phone in say a storm drain, would you go in after it?

Well a teenage girl in Kent, England did and got stuck.

Replacing the phone will be a real drain on her finances.

On the insurance thing... most of them don't cover a basic thing such as "theft" unless it's being taken from you at knifepoint. I was lamenting my lack of insurance on my brand new phone when it got robbed from behind the desk at work when I actually looked up the gadget insurance I could've gotten only to see I wouldn't have been covered anyway! Such a scam!

But who the hell would jump into a storm drain...for a Blackberry? *

Edit: it was an iPhone, I'd heard it was a Blackberry. Either way :pac:

    Agree.

Insurance for a phone just isn't worth it. In most circumstances that arise with phones they're covered under warranty anyway.

Never lost or had a phone stolen myself. Try to be as careful as possible. :)

That's the best type of insurance you can give your phone...and it's free!!

(Unless like me you had to learn that lesson the hard way, to the tune of a brand new €650 iPhone being stolen haha)

I use a €29.00 old school samsung flip phone and I buy a few at a time. They have a life-expectancy of a few months before the pace kills them, then I open another. I bought a samsung note yokie and it lasted the glorious total of a day before I sat on it and it cracked like an egg. I hated it anyway. I live on the phone for work too so it has to be simple and reliable - Samsung flip ftw. Three days out of the one charge-up helps too. Insurance not required.

My phone is like a car. The insurance would cost more than it's worth.

    G'won the Nokia 113! :D

Phone insurance is like idiot insurance. A nice little earner for the provider that rarely pays out.

I read that in the voice of Brass Eye. I smiled. Then I saw the picture and I smiled some more.

Nice of the person to stand there taking pictures and nice to then give those pics to the media.

When my iPhone got stolen, I worked out that the €10 monthly payment for insurance would have paid for about 3/4 of the price I paid for a second hand replacement - and as people have said, there would have been a question mark over whether the feckers would have even covered it. Not worth it IMO.

Can you not just put the phone on a household policy?

I think I paid €80 for my current Irish phone 6 years ago.
Granted, there are some messages on there that hold sentimental value, and I'd be sad to lose it, but how much would an insurance company pay out, and how much would they have charged me in the interim?
I can almost, sort of understand why people pay ridiculous amounts for phones, but they seem to lose them with surprising regularity

I'm struggling to see the "logic" of her efforts, unless she has really, really clever toes. Which might be a stretch.

Maybe she was trying to pick it up with her fanny.
