get it serviced by a competent service engineer and make sure you get a flugas analysis printout on completion

What is a competent service engineer as opposed to an incompetent one ,

One who is suitably trained, suitably qualified & suitably experienced to carry out said works.

How are the public supposed to identify that person

A good place to start is see if they are a member of a competent member scheme such as OFTEC. Not always correct but a good place to start.
Ask the manufacturer of your boiler who is their service agent for your area.
Ask on Boards for a recommendation for a competent person.
Ask the person what qualification, training & experience do they have.

Got on to the manufacturer they gave me the number of a plumber ( recommended by them) to service it , 2 hours later , no print out , nothing but a bill for 170 for taking out baffels brushing them down & putting them in again so I guess getting on to the manufacturer & getting printouts are not standard !

Certainly you should have got an analysis print out. Did you not ask him for it?
Also he certainly was not "brushing baffles" for 2 hours, well I would think he wasn't!
Did you get a break down of what he done for €170? Seems very excessive for just a service. He must have replaced parts.

If he was recommended by manufacturer & competent as you suggest then he should be giving the printout as standard.

Absolutely he should have. But if you knew you should have received one, why didn't you ask for one? I certainly wouldn't have handed over €170 unless I knew what it was for.

170 eu way over the top unless parts were also required if I have to fit parts I would at least advise the customer in advance on site

whats the point telling a customer a service is going to cost 100eu and then present them a bill for 170 eu

Are you sure the printout isn't stuck inside the boiler casing somewhere with the " next service due" date ??

Get back in to Grant and tell the what happened. They will want to know this. They may also help you sort this out to your satisfaction.

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

Report him, we don't want chancers in our industry, and as you seem disillusioned by your experience sitting back and doing nothing is simply helping chancers get away with it.

    Was this person OFTEC registered
Did this person do a flue gas analysis on your appliance
    Sounds suspect ????
