Split finger, when to remove dressing?

Just wondered if anyone could help me with this. My husband split his thumb at work earlier this week and had it glued and some strips put on the wound at an out of hours doctors. The doctor said it should be ok in a week. I change the adhesive dressing covering it every day, but I'm not sure about the wound itself.

There is no infection and it isn't painful. The doctor didn't say when he should remove the strips and dressing or whether it would need checking. I'm just wondering if he needs to get it checked by the nurse at our own GP practice?
