Unemployment benefit query

    I've decided to give up a contract role two months prior to my contract finishing.

    I am going to the USA for four weeks when I finish up.

    My query is, how long will I have to wait when I get back to be entitled to an unemployment benefit. It's been a number of years since I was out of work so completely out of the loop with this.

    Sounds as though you'd be entitled to JSB which isn't means tested. It shouldn't be a long wait, but often that's not the case. Waits of upwards of 8 weeks aren't unusual. You only get JSB for 9 months AFAIK, then you'd be means tested for JSA.

    Thanks, don't mind how long it takes to get the money. Was under the impression there was a time period before I could even apply for it.

    The first three days are disregarded. So you should really make the claim ASAP.

    As above sign on the first day you are unemployed,let the dept decide on anything else.

    Where are you applying?

    What are you applying for - is it JSB or JSA?

    Search http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055546279 this thread. Your office is probably listed and you can get an idea from there.

    Yes im signing on for unemployment benefits from Monday, 2 questions, 1.I will not have my p 45 and my statement of lumpsum(,Approx,10k,) for 2 weeks, will my claim for benefits start from mon,or when my p45 and lumpsum statement,is passed into the social welfare, and 2,how long is the average waiting time for unemployment benefit now.Thanks for your time.
