Renting without licence ?

Driving licence went missing and it looks like I may be very tight on time to get a new one.

Does anyone have any experience of being able to rent a car abroad with just a Letter of Entitlement / Driver Statement from NDLS ?

    Thanks

Two chances, I would have thought. Feck all and none.

OP I don't think it's possible. I mislaid my license as well and applied for a new one for the same reason. It took exactly one week. I'm in Kilkenny.

Thanks for the reply - how long ago was this please ?
I wonder if it would be worth going down there ... my local office is Naas

Naas has always been very quick at sending out licenses (I usually get mine in a little over a week), however I have no idea what they are like since they moved to the new system.

Cant hurt to go down and explain your situation and see if there is anything that they can do to fast track it for you.

No licence, no rental. No rental company will consider you without one. I'd call the local office, explain the situation and see if the licence can be expedited for you.

OP definitely not from any major rental companies.

But you might be able to rent something from some local cowboy renting cars our of his yard.

I remember renting moped in Barcelona. I don't have A category licence, so all I could rent was 50cc scooter. They offered me 125cc, and said I can take it, as they don't care. Only if I had accident or got pulled by police, I could run into trouble.

In Poland I rented car from some local rental company, and they didn't even look at my licence.

    So it is possible.
But don't expect to get a rental car from Hertz, Budget, Avis or anything on the airport on your arrival. This won't happen.

Monday 24th March, had the license back Monday 31st.
Do you not have to have an address in the licensing authority's locality?
I would explain all to to the Naas office, they might push it through a bit quicker.

I dont think so. There was someone on here who needed a replacement license in a hurry who said they went to Naas from Dublin and got looked after.

Yea, I think you're right there, that's handy to know.

OP, how much time have you got. When I left mine in they said it would take between 1 and 3 weeks.

That gives you almost 3 weeks. I'd say you would be ok. You should go on Monday though. Check and double check your paperwork. You can get the details on line. My old license was the paper one, replacement is the plastic one.

I would be very wary of driving abroad without a valid licence on me.

Applied in Naas on Saturday 5th for a replacement for a lost licence.
    Rang every day since.
    It arrived this morning !!

Thanks for all of your help folks !

    So eight working days.
Why did you ring them every day. What good does that do, if any.
