    Hello,
I'm currently in permanent position and interviewed with new company last week. They came back to me today and want to skip 2nd rd interviews and move straight to referees and medical. They haven't offered package as such yet and I'm wondering should I and is it ok to push for official offer before I go to referees? I'm working in current company for 7years and have great benefits so need to know if worth to move.

Also what negotiations can I do realistically?

I'd ask for a contract subject to referees to be honest, have they not even made an offer?

    You've answered your own question.

Why did you do the interview? Are you serious about moving? I'm presuming it's the same level job - not a more senior one

IMO...if I was in your shoes, benefits etc would need to be at least as good and salary would need to be min. 15% better.

It's not worth the risk otherwise. You've built up 7 yrs career in your current job - you're happy where you are - why move?

You'll be starting over as the new person - you don't know the new boss yet - not properly anyway- and you'll have to be on your best behaviour etc.

I def. wouldn't be giving them references until you had the package agreed.

Thanks both. Just needed that reassuring, i have more responsibilities where I am but ovb this has grown over the years without my title changing. It won't change either, I've asked.....
The layer above me in new place is pretty much the job I do now along with job I have applied for. It's newer company so not as busy so is suppose not as spread as thin.

Sorry forgot to say, job is fairly specialised. They looking for someone since before Xmas (had seen it advertised and have had recruiters come after me to apply but in end did off my own back). They told me basically I have it just need medical ASAP and refs

I'd want an offer with salary and benefits before I'd consider a medical and referees so I could weigh up if it was worth it.

You'll have to take at least a half day off to do a medical and they may want referees from your current job.

I'd not consider that unless I knew the offer was good enough to move for.

I too work in a very specialised area (there are three people qualified in my area in Ireland) so I can understand the aspects that go with that.

    A few things:

    1. You obviously impressed in your 1st interview if they want to move so quickly so well done on that.
    2. You should at least have a verbal offer before providing references
    3. A way out of the reference situation is to tell the client to check out your LinkedIn page (where hopefully you have some recommendations?)
    4. You say you have been with the same company for 7 years, if you have been in the same job with them for that length of time and this role is a more senior position then I personally would continue to see what offer/package comes from it. Then & only then will you be in a true position to decide yourself IMHO
