Yes the head of the bird can become blooded as they jump againest the cage but it's nice to keep these Magpies under control far too many of them. its the Citys you see loads of them.

Got another 3 magpies over the past week or so. Thats 28 now since last september. I trap all year round.

September 2012 to september 2013 i caught 54 magpies. I am hoping to beat that number for september this year :) (september is when the legs/wings are submitted for club counts).

Magpies are known to be a carrier of salmonella disease in cattle and can transfer it to the cattle if they are stuck in their rations, etc.

Good going backfire, any tips you could pass on to us that ya think might help us nail another few of them?

Besides the call bird itself, there is no harm placing some homemade bread and/or white duck eggs or hen eggs into the centre of each trapping compartment. Well this works well for the 2 trapper larsen trap where the bird has to jump down into the cage. I dont have one of those 4 trapper hexagon shaped cages.

I see a broken egg shell in one of those photos, was that photo taken after a magpie was caught in that compartment?
I am just asking in case you are putting in egg shells into the compartment. Egg shells are no good, neither is holed eggs. The eggs should be completely sound.

Anyway, i see you have 2 more magpies caught in that 2nd photo? Nice going! :)
