    Hi Folks,

I am been afforded €12k to go out and purchase a new car. I will definitely want a diesel car (driving with work) and for me comfort/luxury is a must. Any recommendations on reliable suitable motors that would be best for me.

    any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

An Octavia Elegance 1.9 TDI would fit the bill, it'll have loadsa toys anyway if not a prestige badge.

This for me - I'm not gonna say differently, because I've been driving around in one since I bought it new 4 years ago.

Not a prestige badge, and not the most aesthetically pleasing of cars, but solid, comfortable, reliable, economical and with a few toys and gizmos (cruise control, parking sensors, loadsa buttons on the steering wheel, yadda yadda). It's my second Octavia (I had an Audi in between, God bless the Celtic Tiger), and I definitely recommend it.

For 12k, surely he could move up to a pretty decent superb.
The estate Skoda Superb was the car I wanted last time I changed, just did not have enough cash for it.

You might as well buy an older 06 for 5k and spare yourself some money if your going with that ancient engine.

For 12k I would want something nice.

Accord are's nice, reliable modern diesel engine, not 90's technology like the 1.9tdi and doesn't have serious issues like VAG 2.0tdi and BMW 2.0 diesel engine.

Subaru legacy are nice as well, very reliable.

There's the €2500 extra VRT to consider on that Accord

Nice Honda, but does that mileage not put people off? Especially for that €€€€€

And as for the VAG, is there reliability issues??

Not many cars more comfortable then the Volvo S60 imo.

Get the D5 SE model. My family had one in 2006 and 2010, both had about 300,000km on the clock and never had a days problem with them.

We're on our 3rd one now.

A Mercedes E class would be very comfortable and refined also.

I've got a nice 09 Octavia Laurin & Klement for sale if you're interested (for less than 12K too) :)

Very comfortable and reliable but needs good service 2.2 diesel automatic gearbox.

Volvo seats are excellent in fairness. Not gone on our superbs seats at all. Can't find a position that suits me after 2 months of ownership. Honestly much preferred the Gt line seats in the megane to it.
