Supplementary Welfare Allowance

I'm thinking of taking early retirement from my job this summer (public servant). I got the figures and I'd be entitled to a pension of €440 per month (on top of a lump sum). I was told that I may be entitled to a Supplementary Welfare Pension but that I would not be told until I retired

Now, thrifty & all as I am, even I can't manage on €440 a month! I presume I wouldn't be entitled to jobseekers allowance as I voluntarily left my job. Has anyone any idea of what allowance I would be entitled to and would my lump sum be taken into consideration when calculating this?

    Have you looked at JSB?

If you have a sizable lump sum there'll be no SWA

Are you sure about that? I thought you were allowed up to 5k and after that you were assessed?

Firstly, you can only get SWA if you have applied for a DSP payment and your waiting for your application to be processed.
So what payment are you going to apply for? Do you meet the PRSI requirements for JSB? What class of PRSI are you paying now?
Even if you have the correct class of PRSI do you meet the other conditions for JSB? You would probably incur the 9 week disqualification even if you did meet all the conditions.
Your right about the €5000 but your €440 is also assessed also your spouse/partners income (if you have one)

OP I have come across this before

Had a google and found what might be what you are asking about http://www.pna.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=317:supplementary-pension-circular&catid=46:pensions&Itemid=144

Your employer cannot say for definite if you would qualify for this when you take early retirement as you will have to apply for a sw payment on retirement.

This is a more concise explanation http://www.dcu.ie/hr/Supplementary%20Pension%20Information%20-%20December%202010.pdf
