I did a masters in 2009/2010 and just wondering is it too late to claim back tax for this? Would revenue consider 2009 as the time from which they take the 4 year time limit, or 2010?

The relief can be claimed per academic year. So for academic year 09/10 you can put the claim in the tax year 2010, so long as it's a qualifying course etc.

Ok, I just found out from the college that the fees of ~€5000 were actually paid in 2010. They are sending me the receipt. Must I have also worked in 2010 to claim anything?

It's a tax relief, so unless you paid tax in 2010 it's of no use to you.
