Hey girls, I've seen loads of people get excellent advice on this forum so I am coming to you for help! I got this dress for my 30th birthday party http://www.closetclothing.co.uk/clothing/going-out-dresses/closet-v-back-jacquard-dress.html and while I do like it its very bright compared to what I usually wear and I'm a little out of my comfort zone.

It looks great with nude shoes and bare legs but I feel that would be more appropriate for attending a wedding and I am going to be way overdressed for what is basically a night out in a pub even if it is my birthday! Do you think it would work with black tights and accessories or would I be better off playing it safe with a darker dress?

That's a lovely dress, perfect for a 30th. I wouldn't dress it down with tights either, it's your 30th! Even if you are only going to the pub rather than a party, get dolled up, do the tan, hair done and have fun!

I have a very similar (but shorter) dress that I got in Oasis before Christmas - by switching around shoes, tights and accessories I wore it to my work Christmas party on its own with heels, my mate's 30th with a blazer, black tights and knee-high boots, and to an Imelda May gig with a blazer, natural coloured tights and heels. You can play around and see what you like, but I'd see it as being very appropriate for a 30th. Have fun :)

It's perfect. I have a dress that is a similar colour (non jacquard material) and I wear it for work sometimes. I would have no problem wearing it to the pub. It's a lovely dress btw.

Thanks so much for all your advice. I tried the dress on again and realised even though it was lovely it just wasn't right on me and I wasn't comfortable in it. Sent it back and ended up buying a lovely bright blue dress in oasis which I feel great in and I wore that with nude shoes and bare legs :)

Lovely dress, but if you weren't comfortable in it, then you were right not to wear it.

I'm old-fashioned - I'd never dream of bare legs at any kind of event. Bare legs are for summer skirts and casual wear IMO.

Oh I actually agree, I should have said I wore sheer tights! I meant bare tights as opposed to opaque (it made sense in my head! )
