Lots of clubs not included in the listing. Not sure if it is due to indifference by the clubs or sloppiness by the IT but it is not a very impressive publication.

Was there a charge for inclusion, or did clubs just have to respond to a questionnaire or something? There is a lot of variation in the amount of detail, all of which looks like it was provided by the clubs themselves. Some bothered more than others and some didn't bother at all.

It was €50 last year, I'd imagine it'll be the same this year.

Best laugh I got reading it was the mission statement of Sword Open:

Mission statement for the season ahead:Look at improved marketing plans (and put out Child of Prague every night!).

According to Lahinch when I contact them by email, they are not having any open competitions this year.

Thank you for your email. We are not having open days this year. Our Men’s Intermediate Scratch Trophy is on Sunday, 29th June, on the Castle Course.

That's strange (and a pity). I played in the Thursday opens a few times over the last couple of years and it was great value.

Jaysus even the scratch cup is on in the Castle Course. Must have something to do with the damage by the storms I assume ?

Do not think that there was a charge for inclusion but am open to correction. Times sent out questionnaire and it was up to clubs to reply. Clubs missing from article clearly did not reply. Unbelievable as this was an opportunity for free advertising!

By coincidence, I'm just looking at it again and noting how many clubs are missing. It does seem daft not to take the opportunity.

If the times sent out a questionnaire they only sent to selected clubs, some of the stuff in the link is taken from club websites.

So it was more sloppy on the part of the times rather than a lack of interest by the clubs who would have been grateful for the free advertising.

Its really sloppy and uneven. They even managed to confuse Adare Manor GC and Adare GC. Surprised to see the IT publish such a shoddy supplement.

No, the Inter Scratch Cup is always held on the Castle Course. I used to get onto them every year in the hope that it might be on the Old Course some year but it never was unfortunately.

Per Philip Reid's article - every club was contacted by phone or email or both- some declined to reply or were late replying- so most of the information came from the clubs themselves. Not sure that I would be blaming the Irish Times entirely here.

Only inasmuch as they were willing to publish such an incomplete profile but of course the clubs are responsible too.

The Adare mistake was pretty bad though. The dogs in the street know that Adare Manor Golf Club was the original and preceded the new one at the Manor itself (Adare Golf Club) by about fifty years.

I can tell you of at least one club that I know personally, that was not contacted by any means and what is quoted in the article is taken directly from their website.
