JSB and "relevant tax year"

So, I'm about to get turfed out of a contract position, which I've been working in since 19th march 2013. I've been paying class A contributions in that time.

Before that, I was on JSB from the Summer of 2012 after my last job, in which I was working in for 3 years, was lost after the company folded.

Looking on the web, I see this reference to "relevant tax year". But I'm confused. It says that the relevant tax year is the "The Relevant Tax Year is the second last complete tax year before the year in which your claim is made. So, for claims made in 2014, the Relevant Tax Year is 2012."

Does this mean that my working year of 2013 is meaningless and that I don't qualify for JSB?

You 2013 contributions would be used for any claims in 2015. For a claim this year you would be required to have 39 paid or credited contributions or 26 in 2012 and 26 in 2011 paid. What were you doing outside the summer work in 2012.

I was made redundant in the Summer of 2012, after working in a permanent position for 3 years. It wasn't Summer work. I signed on for JSB from 1st June 2012 until November 2012 and then again from January 2013 to March 2013.

From the 19th of March 2013 to May 2014 I've been in a contract position which will end on April 30th.

Then you should be fine for a JSB claim when your contract ends. You should have a full year for 2012 between working and signing.

    Ok, cheers Sue.
