Colds and Flu

Any alternative therapies to treat or prevent cold and flu symptoms? I'm on day 3 of a bad bug, and while I usually eat a lot of garlic which is good for immunity I'm feeling particularly rotten. I've started taking some Dr. Vogel cold and flu tablets and plenty of ginger tea with local honey. What do you guys do to prevent colds and flu?

There's a good recipe here, but I'm in no state to leave the house at the moment to get the ingredients: http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/food-and-drink/recipes/flu-soup-1.1642366

Sorry to hear you are unwell! I take extra vitamin C, Echinacea and ginseng if feeling under the weather. Hope you are feeling better soon

I started to get a cold last week so I upped my vitamin C intake, took Echinacea and drank juice. I don't mean pre-packaged juice, but fresh juice I made myself with a juicer and drank ones that were more vegetable based, with some fruit in them for taste.

It didn't stop the cold from coming on, but it was very very mild compared to how bad I normally feel when I have a cold. Of course it might have just been a mild strain that I got.

As soon as I feel my throat going a bit like I'm getting a cold, I up my vitamin c intake straight away.

Whenever I feel a cold/sore throat coming on I drink hot water with lemon and that always works for me. Echinacea is good too, I still remember my mam dropping that into the school years ago when I was doing my leaving cert because my dad had this awful vomiting bug :P I don't usually often get physically ill but I've been quite ill recently, I suspect B12 deficiency, will be having blood tests next week to find out for sure. So I'm taking a good B12 supplement now. Even vegetarians need to be aware of the risk of B12 deficiency. Ofc I clearly didn't take my own advice ¬_¬

edit: on a similar note does anyone have recommendations for a good multi-vitamin supplement (also vegan friendly). I know it's better to get these things from food (which I have been trying to do, see pic in grapevine) but at the minute I could do with the extra boost. Or anything else that's good for boosting your immune system.
