Work Issue - Lazy Colleague

    Hi,

I have an issue at work where a guy has been there for years, has gotten fed up but complacent, does the bare minimum (really little) but bluffs his way through meetings including taking credit for my work (in front of me) - this also happens behind closed doors. I do like the guy, get on well with him and also with others on the team. However, my reputation and targets are being affected. Is there much I can do here? We don't have a manager, so the our output is not looked at on an individual basis.

    Thanks

Before it gets to the point of involving other people (management etc), the first thing you need to do is talk to the guy. He's taking credit for your work because you are letting him take credit for your work. Take him aside for a meeting, and explain to him that you enjoy working with him, however you aren't happy with him taking credit for your work as people are assuming that you are not pulling your weight, and that you'd prefer it not to happen again.

How he responds to that and, more importantly, whether he gets the hint and pulls his weight on the team in the future will be the deciding factor as to whether it needs to go further.
