    Hey,

How do I tell if my PSU is faulty? Put together my build last night, realized I needed adaptors for the plugs which I picked up today. Hooked up and when I plugged in the PSU, nothing flashes in the build, no fans go, everything is quiet.

I have tried the original cable in an adaptor and a new kettle lead into the PSU.

    Any suggestions?

Hwvs send out a European plug you need to use like you said the kettle one.

Did you hook the case power switch lead to the motherboard. ?

Is there any lights on the board?

I tried my monitor in the adaptor and it worked alright so its not the adaptor or power cable. My case wires don't indicate which wire is the ground on the header connectors so I think I might have plugged that in wrong, could this blow the mobo? No lights or noises whatsoever anywhere on the machine working

I also found it hard to plug in the CPU power so I'm hoping it may be that.

I have put the machine away for the night l, I was just getting frustrated.

if you have not already, have a look on youtube, and just see if there anything you might have missed when connecting up yours.

Yeah man gonna check on everything tomorrow. I watched a YouTube video while I was doing the build which newegg put together.

I must say, the case instructions are very poor

Mobo is the asrock 970 pro 3 r2 and the case is aerocool gt-r black edition.

If the board has a 24 pin atx, do you need a power supply with 24 pins?

    What PSU did you get?

I got a be quiet pure power 500w. Ye see I threw the build up on the table earlier and took out the video card, unplugged the CPU power and atx power. I noticed that the last 4 pins may not have been in properly, they need to go in first and seem to lock in place once the rest are put in.

At the time nothing worked but when I cleared the work space I noticed that I had made a rookie error and hadn't the power on at the wall.

Couldn't suffer putting the build back on the table

Take a few pics and add them here. May help spot the problem

I hope you are using an 8 pin EPS12V connector and not a 4 pin one :( Depending on the CPU you have, it may need the proper juice. What is the CPU model? If it is a current CPU, like a AMD Phenom II X6 / X4 / X3 / X2 (except 920 / 940) I would advise using a 8 pin EPS12V cable and not a 4 pin cable. Not saying that, that is the cause of the problem, I don't really see your specs listed, but a 500watt for a Phenom II is a bit on the low side if you ask me, especially if you have a current Nvidia Card like a GTX 500 or 600 series in there, you may simply need more juice. Also the newegg reviews were not that great for that mobo. Not that newegg has the final say on motherboards, but their reviews are usually spot on and I have been their customer (when I lived in the US) for many years. You may want to invest in MOSFET / VRM cooling as that board does not seem to have any I just noticed.

    Excalibur!

The CPU power supply from the power brick for some reason could go in the correct way and an incorrect way as I found out. Took the build apart, did an external build and it all powered on.

Stupid mistake to make but it is my first build and I'm heavily medicated! Got to the bios menu and then had to put it away as the baba woke up and would no doubt want to help make it!

With any luck, I will be playing arma by 10 tonight.

    Thanks for your help everyone
