it appears Tesco are pulling out of the car insurance market here, most of the family have been using them for the last few years (best quotes) I know they are only an intermediary but they were always cheapest for most of the family and as you know every little helps :D:D

You're right, they are underwritten by RSA, always sad to have less competition but there are still a lot of providers out there.

I've been with Aviva the last few years, and what was originally an average quote became quite cheap once you get a significant amount deducted after passing their free ignition test.

Well hopefully it wont affect me too much I only pay 260-280ish every year and i do, do the rounds at renewal time, i'm guessing liberty will probably be next best, they were the only ones cheaper than tesco for the missus.

I was only with them for one year, they were 50 or 60 cheaper than anywhere else at the time.
When it came time to renew though the premium was 120 more expensive, so I shopped around again.
I find them all much the same, offer a good deal to get you on their books then push it up a bit the following year hopping you will stay rather than go shopping again.

Never found them competitive for what I wanted, to be honest. Yes their basic policy was cheap but when you add the likes of NCB protection, windscreen cover, breakdown assist, etc they actually were more expensive than most other quotes which had these included.

Yeah that's true but I think most companies do that, my last renewal (dec 2013) they wanted 364 I went online and got a quote for 278 with them, so I just rang and explained that I wouldn't be renewing but wanted to take out this (ref num) policy instead and there were no issues. guess I will have to wait till Dec to worry about it.

My renewal for tesco has just come it, its 850 this year up from about 550, I've an extra years NCB, no points and a year older, I'm wondering if they are trying to price themselves out of the market so they dont get renewals? Anyone else find this

I had a similar experience in Sept of last year. I had been insured with them for a few years, as both learner and then subsequently with a full license. They were substantially cheaper than anyone else. I also have/had my wife who is on a provisional insured. The premium concerned is quite similar to your own, I started out paying over 800, which dropped over the years to 500 something.

Anyway, last September with 3 year's NCB with themselves they hit me with a quote that was 2/300 hundred higher, and if I recall correctly was even higher than the quote they gave me before I'd even driven a car once in my life. When I called up to cancel with them I got the equivalent of a shrug, they didn't seem to care.

I got a good quote from FBD that included some extras Tesco didn't, so it all worked out in the end. But I'm not surprised to hear this news given what I experienced.
