    Hi guys,

Friend has been given their old work computer upon leaving their job, but did not have admin privileges on their account. Now the computer (Win 7 Pro x64) is at home and I'm trying to sort out her issues. Since her account does not have admin privileges she can't download and install programmes, printer drivers etc. She's contacted the IT folks in her old job and they gave her admin passwords but none work.

Am I right in assuming that since it was a networked computer that none of the admin passwords will work unless it's on the original network? If so, is there any way to fix this without a fresh install?

I have downloaded <snip> but am finding it really hard to boot into the USB from startup - something funky going on with the boot order (which obviously I'll need to sort before attempting a reinstall).

    Thanks guys,

You'll need to find the local admin password or change it to something you know.

The <snip> has a password changer.

Thanks Ken. I used something similar but to no avail. I think I'm just going to do a fresh install, it's no harm anyway, get a fresh start.

    No warez / Crackz please.

    NT password reset disk http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

will reset the admin password , but then again you may also have domain crud on the system

Agree with Capt. on NT password reset disk, simple to use and works a treat, but as also mentioned, a clean install would be better as any software installed on it would no longer be covered by the company's license agreements.
