Sorry for another JB thread. I'm wondering would/has anyone commuted or even relocated for a suitable placement or do people look in their locality? Thanks.

I commute for my jobbridge, actually a fairly long commute, 40 miles each way costs about 60 quid a week in fuel so I'm actually worse off then when was just on the dole.

It might be worth it, it depends on how good an internship it is, is it good valuable experience.

Thanks for the reply, suppose it does depend on the quality of the internship as well as weighing up the financial element. Good to hear from someone who is doing what I'm considering doing!

Thanks for the reply, that's what I am considering - either somewhere within commutable distance or actually moving for an opportunity, trying to weigh up pro and cons :o

I have just finished a 9 mth JB. It was only 20 mins drive from home and it was one of the deciding factors for me.

I got a job (not in the same company) but only an extra 5 mins drive from where I was in the JB so it all worked out brilliantly for me.

good luck with whatever you choose.

Fair play, that's great that it worked out for you. I'm going to apply for suitable internships near and far, just in case, you never know what might turn up...

A friend moved half way across the country. Scraped through financially but is now back on the dole as it was plain from the outset that the company couldn't keep her on in any case. For jobridge to be of any tangible benefit you have to be living rent free at home and benefit from a cushy job at the end of it but fat chance of that.

Thanks for that reply. It actually sums up my doubt about looking outside my locality!

Do up a cost break down of what it'd be like to live on 238 a week to see if it could work out is the best thing.

You're not going to be flashing the cash but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

There's 26 properties in Galway city and 23 in Cork city for sharing accommodation for less than 250 a month.

So after rent you'd have 238-62.5 = 175.50 a week to live on.

Rent and food will be your biggest bills so figure out how much you spend on food now.

Thanks for that good advice. Will apply for any I see that are suitable, wherever they may be, and am not extravagant by any means so it may just work out
