eFibre in my area is becoming a wild goose chase

    Hi there,

I live in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick and this eFibre has done it all to me and I'm at my wits end.

Last summer the map said it would be available in September at the latest and I think it was in the first week of September my area went green and said it is available but then after a few days it changed to a different colour and said it would be available in January I think it was and the that changed to March 2014 and now it still says March 2014 even though it's April now.

How can the rollout times be off by such a huge amount of time? Don't they add some sort of padding to the dates to cover themselves so they can at least deliver it on a closer date to the one they originally published? I really don't know any more.

Can anyone please give me a solid time frame when this is expected to roll out here? I can't promise I will believe it(after what that map has done to me) but It might keep me going for a little bit longer so I don't go insane.

    Thanks.

    [font=Times New Roman","serif]Hi rg370

There are a number of areas listed as scheduled to go live in March - I understand it's now April and I can only apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you so far. I can confirm I have requested clarification as to when we can have this update and further clarification on this delay. As soon as I have more information I will post to this forum.

    Thanks

I have just checked the map and now the roll-out date has gone from March to May! And at the same time piles and piles of new places have appeared on the map that were never there before and it say's it will be rolled out in those place in April!

I honestly don't even believe it will be here in May, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if at the end of May it changed to August, making it a whole YEAR after the originally published roll-out date for here. What sort of amateurs are in charge of making these schedules? A couple of months off target is okay but 9 months is just unbelievable, and that's if it actually arrives in May, it will probably be more if the past is anything to go by.

What the hell is going on? I see tiny little villages getting it months before the biggest town in Limerick, is there some sort technical problems or what? I also sent a PM with my phone number last Friday and got no reply, can I get any more specific information rather than just the unreliable information on the map?

    Thanks.

    UPDATE
I just went back and checked the map, when you hover over areas it shows a month associated with that colour but then that colour at the bottom of the map in the legend states a different month for that colour. More amateur work from Eircom.

When I hover over Newcaslte West it says July 2014! and the legend at the bottom says that light blue colour is associated with "May 2014", which is the correct one? Is it that hard to keep them in sync? If they are going to be a whole year off schedule they could at least cause less confusion.

Try being in an area that is marked as having fibre since last june on that map and none of my neighbours in a 2km radius have fibre availability. Also cabinet at the end of the road is marked as live - however nobody is connected to it? it's been like that for almost a year and thats just outside limerick city. In fairness it's a farce at this stage. Only people in urban centres seem to be getting fibre and most of those have UPC already which is faster.

That would drive me mad. I just can't get over the atrocious scheduling. A month or two is acceptable for such a big project but hitting past the half a year mark and soon enough to be a year later than originally published is just amazing I am truly lost for words at this stage. I don' think I have ever seen a company be this off schedule with something.

When I get the thing I just hope it works from day one so I don't have to be dealing with Eircom again.

The problem is eircom own the lines and as long as that is the case - you will always have to deal with eircom.
It should never have been sold by the state at least money could be ploughed into it now as we're lagging behind badly.
The government have failed us on communications more than anything - i for one will not be forgetting that come next election.
Labour will hopefully be decimated next time round - They have been a failure on everything to do with communications. Sure you may as well be talking to Pat Rabbitte about teletext as internet he's clueless in every sense of the word.
