Moving to Dublin area from the US.

    Hello all. I've been recently asked by my company to take up a temporary position for a client company in the Dublin. I work for an IT services company(big surprise). I have some questions but I cant seem to find a suitable forum to post them on. So I'll just list them here.
    1. I am American born to an Irish parent, my mother. When I was younger she mentioned something about me being able to claim Irish citizenship. However she passed away some years ago and I really never learned much about how that works. I figure if I qualify for that it might be easier than applying for a work visa.
    2. I've got exactly no idea where I'd live. It has to be in or near Dublin but I dunno which areas are good/bad/ugly. I figure I can afford about €1000 to 1200 in rent a month based on a rough conversion from US Dollars.
    3. Is there decent public transportation or is a car a must?
