Ridiculous ads on FilmFour

Recorded Rising Sun on FilmFour and while watching it noticed that the number of ads they run during a film has gotten ridiculous. I always thought that RTE were bad for the ads but FilmFour have taken it to a whole new level.

A 5 minute ad break runs from 1:55 to the 2 hour mark and with so little of the film left I assumed it was the last ad of the night. I'd barely had time to think that when after less than 3 minutes it cut to another 5 minute ad. I understand the need for a free to air channel to run ads but two 5 minute ads 3 minutes apart is really taking the piss

That's shocking OP. Did you make a fresh batch of popcorn?

You'd love American TV channels, then. They love throwing in as many adverts as possible, about 4-5 breaks during a normal 30 minute show.

american ad breaks are shorter though, it's generally the same amount of ads as here just split up

It's ridiculous, a sitcom can have a break right after the titles, two in the show and another before the end credits

Their more frequent adverts are distracting, I'd far prefer 1 long advert rather than multiples every 5 to 10 minutes. At least that way I could go put on food, go to the jacks, or have a smoke and enjoy the rest of the show.

Their adverts are hilariously awful, like ours, but in their own American way. :pac:

yeah i'd imagine most people would, you could just get up and make the tea or go to the bathroom or take a short jog around the block, which is exactly why they split the adverts up the way they do :) not much point paying a station to show your advert you spent all that money on if they bury it in the middle of a 5 minute ad block no one watches anyway.

In Portugal the breaks are about 15 minutes long!! I couldn't believe it when on holiday last year.

I couldnt get over the amount of ads for prescription drugs on American tv, ads for stuff like Xanax and even hormone replacement pills being advertised like they're M&Ms

You see them on Hulu, a quick 30 second ad followed by a full minute where the possible side effects are listed off.

They're brilliant too, saw one last week about cream for a mature woman's.......eh........lady bits.

Side effects included rashes, inflammation and chronic pain of said lady bits.

The ad then ended with a woman with a big smile saying "What's stopping you?"

Oh, I dunno, probably the 15 seconds of side effects that were listed :pac:

Film4, C4, UTV, TV3, Sky channels all have ridiculous ad times. You should try watching True Detective on Sky Atlantic, u cant, u have to record it

Any films on TV I record and watch later.

If I want to watch it that night I pause the TV and let it get a good fifteen minutes headstart so I can fast forward through the first few ad breaks.

I haven't actively watched ads in years as I don't watch anything live, I record everything I want to see off terrestrial TV and fast forward through the ads and download all the US stuff ad free

Yeah at the start of shows/movies I leave it paused for about 10 or 15 minutes and then just fast forward through the ads to catch up.

That's what most people do and what I always do but still, two 5 minute ads 3 minutes apart is a little much

And often the credits itself will be split screened with a promo for the next show on, and then more ads til close of credits!

Even Hulu+ has them. It put me right off the service.

Hulu have been very clear that ads are the only way that they can sell their product at such a low price. Honestly, a few 30 second ads during an episode of TV is something I can live with. There's no ads during films or older TV shows, just the recent ones.

Maybe so but the inclusion of ads aren't for me.
