So sad to see more and more major airlines phasing out the venerable Boeing 747. All Nippon Airways today flew their last B744
    service.

Last B744 flight for them and the last ever 747D flight. The 747d really was a very unique aircraft close to 500 pax flying short haul flights.
The list of 747 operators is getting smaller and smaller just grateful ive had the opportunity to fly on it quiet a few times!

What have ANA Replaced the 747s with? High density 777s i presume. Yes The end of an era and another nail in the coffin for the venerable 74. The 748 in pax operations isnt too popular either. Joe Sutter chief engineer of the original 747 writes a great autobiography and its a well worth lazying by the beech kindle buy.

Up to 600 pax ina tightly packed 744D; the 773s have 514 premium and economy seats.

Just had a quick look on wiki. Looks like orders are in the single digits since 2007 except for 13 last year. Surely only a matter time before Boeing pull the plug on what is IMHO the most beautiful passenger aircraft in common use today. Count myself lucky to have had the priveledge to fly on her in all 3 classes.

748 was a sales flop really except for the freighters, which I doubt will pay the development costs. Real shame as it's a beautiful aircraft

They are just hanging on for the US Gov to order a new Air Force One and then when Obama gets a new 747-800 they will close up shop, finish the existing orders or convert them to 777's. Goods news is the 747 will be around for the next 15 - 20 years and the last of the 747-800's built now will surely last 25 to 30 years. That would see the 747 family have had a service of almost 70 years, pretty astounding really.

I was surprised when i looked at the census, some of the E4B aircraft were delivered in 1973!! Also impressed that there are still 1059 active B747's flying.
