Just wondering if anyone had any info about upcoming hd channels on the sky platform? Specifically rte 1, channel 4, bbc 3 (going soon anyway) and bbc 4?

They've all been hd on saorview/freeview for a while now

For completion 3 of the 4 channels mentioned are also in HD on satellite and are on the Freesat platform (and are already on the Sky platform in the UK) FYI ;)

It's needs to be gone.. A lot of people don't bother with it since most standard TV stations are now broadcasting in HD on free platforms.

they are gonna have to abandon it at some stage because eventually most channels will be HD only, but it could be a few years before that happens, Sky will eventually also launch a 4k HD service as will other premium providers like 'Canal+' and 'C More Entertainment' with a HD charge for those services.

Highly unlikely we will see BBC3 in HD on Sky Ireland with that channel closing next year, not sure we will get BBC4 either with all the cost cutting measures of late. RTE One will eventually launch in HD but I have no idea why we don't get Channel 4 in HD, we get all their other channels in HD, not sure why we don't get 4Seven either.

No reason why we couldn't get BBC Four HD, it wouldn't cost BBC anything - in fact, they should, in theory, make some money, as it'd be up to Sky to pay for carriage rights or something to BBC Worldwide.

The Channel 4 on Sky's EPG in ROI differs from all the others on satellite. It's not FTA for a start, it's encrypted and allows certain programmes to be blocked to Irish viewers, where there are rights issues (I don't think there are many issues left in that regard but the option remains).

And then of course, there are the adverts, which would be aimed at Irish audiences on the "C4 Ireland"

I tried it get that reduced or removed and had to completely drop it instead as they would'nt budge.

Rte1 HD would be a good addition. Some of the content is very fuzzy, like the politics show a few nights ago. It appears the discussion shows are broadcast in very low SD, while much of the imports are in higher format and close to HD. Strange how I got really used to HD and now expect it.

Tv3 football is very noticeably fuzzy and needs to go HD also.

The workaround for C4 in HD is to download the HD version from the catchup service. 4Seven is available via "Other Channels", or do you mean 4Seven HD?

    I meant 4Sseven, is there a 4seven HD?

Channel 4 got licences for Channel 4+1 HD and 4seven HD but I don't think either are operating - on terrestrial or satellite tv.

No I just meant 4Seven. I have 4Seven and C4 HD via "other channels"

The problem obviously is you can't season link, but my work around for C4 is you can download HD shows from "On Demand" the day after airing.

Sky's HD offering is increasingly poor value for money. Cant believe they still charge for it. They dont even have the HD version of our national broadcasters main channel. Very poor:mad:
