we have moved into a house with HRV unit which has been on since we moved. We are extremely tired and thirsty all of the time since moving and Im wondering could it be the unit which is drying the air. anyone got any experience / negative impact of HRV systems?

I doubt very much if it is drying the air, might depend on the make, but I think not.

Moisture does come out of the expelled air as it cools, when warming the incoming air. Are the filters clean, dry and have they been changed regularly and recently? Write the date on them when you change them.

Open the windows and see if that makes you feel any better. If you are unsure have it serviced, maybe it is not set correctly and you are not getting enough changes of air.

My own experience has only been positive. Is the house very new?

Yes OP, you may well be correct. The apparent dry air you notice may be as a result of poor HRV design and or commissioning, i.e. under/over supplying of fresh air. Or this feeling of dry air, which may cause sore eyes can happen if there is dust within the ducting itself accumulated in there during the construction. I would strongly suggest you contact the HRV company who designed and installed your system or there are several independent companies who can carry out a survey of your HRV and determine what exactly the issue is.

Do you have a stove or internal boiler.?

The reason I'm asking is that one of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning is tiredness.
