Social Welfare Payment Methods - can anyone shed light on this?

OK, I've been having this discussion/argument with my brother for a while. The issue is Social Welfare Payment methods.

Now, when I was on Social Welfare, I always got paid into my bank account. I know they phased out payments to bank accounts a while back (never for me - I always got paid into my bank account), as when my brother was signing on he couldn't get paid into the bank - he had to collect his money at the post office every week.

Is it still the case that you can only receive Social Welfare (Jobseekers) at the post office? Lately I've been reading that the Department wants to phase out cash payments and move to electronic payments - which makes it seems like they have done a huge about turn?! I know they previously stopped bank payments in order to clamp down on fraudulent claims.

So, what is the story if you are a Social Welfare recipient these days? Can you get paid into your bank account again, or is Post Office still the only method of payment.

Hope someone can clear this up for me. Thanks!

Certain payments are allowed into bank accounts. Disability etc and sometimes OPFP depending on circumstances. I think FIS is also electronically transferred and some BTEA payments too.

Currently Job seekers can only be collected in the PO over a 3 day time frame
