Are they similar to The Cadillac Three?

I like TCT on CD but wasn't to keen on them live.

They're like Lynyrd Skynyrd crossed with The Black Crowes, listen to that youtube link of the album, see what ya think.

As for Blackberry Smoke's live performances, they're getting rave reviews after every gig

Good solid album. Suprise gig announcement as i just didnt see these guys hitting IRL. Think venue will be too big for them. They've gotten zero press or promotion here. Regardless ill be at it. Know a couple folks who have seen them live & top marks from them.

This is good news, I'm liking the album a lot at the moment.

Of course, I haven't checked anywhere else yet so I'm presuming this isn't another April Fool from scud....

I'll pop along to this ...

Hopefully The Temperance Movement will get their asses over here too.

Great debut album out, playing everywhere except IRL.

Yep, they're touring the UK now or shortly, still no sign of them coming here, though :(

Throw in Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gov't Mule for me too. Bands I'm dying to see live.

I was thinking of heading to this but the more I listened to the Whipoorwill album the more I heard Garth Brooks :( ... bit too country , not enough rock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭blastman

Give the new live album, Leave A Scar, a whirl, Ray. I was listening to it last night, found it to have a much rockier sound.

Get listening to older country and you'll be converted!:)

Definitly more "umpfht" whatever that is on the live album as opposed to Whipoorwill recording which is a wee bit too polished, a rawer sound would suit them better I think.

Got the live cd/dvd combo. Much better than album recording suggests imo, plus they seem to be extremely fan friendly & appreciate any success they have.

Unashamedly southern rock, so there is bound to be more than a hint of country in it.. Just my two cent.

    Really enjoyed that gig.

Thought it took a while to get going (there were some technical issue at the beginning, although I couldn't pick out anything obviously wrong), but when they hit their stride, it was very enjoyable. Part of the Academy refurbishment seems to have included some extra lighting, I noticed, which was probably due!

There was a good size crowd at it but I don't think it sold out,

They were very good, there was a bit of a country twang to some of the songs but for the most part was more rockin':)

They played from 9 till 10.30.

I got a photo of the setlist, but some other people who also attended the gig, that I asked about it, were saying to me that they didn't play the songs in the same order as listed on the setlist.

Million Dollar Reload were also very good.

Very good gig, not quite gig of the year candidate (Carcass is winning that one) but excellent none the less.

Was surprised how many were there, was expecting around the 200 mark but more than double that.

A load of Nordies down for it, complete with Colonel Sanders (if you seen him you will know), a few were a pain in the arse, we were at front and a lot fo them during the support band were constantly trying to get the bands attention because they knew them, ok, i get it, you know the fcukin band, well done.

My first time seeing Blackberry Smoke, sound was dire for the first 2/3 songs and charlie was having major issues with his earpiece, couldn't hear a thing.

Very tight unit who looked happy doing what they do.

One odd thing if anybody else noticed, 2 mins before the gig a roadie lit what looked like a load of sage (??) sticks, which smoked like hell, then he wafted them over the whole stage, drum kit, piano, amps, mic stands

Yeah, I noticed that, scud, I presumed that was the real blackberry smoke :)

Odd you should say the sound was dire for the first 2/3 songs, I could see Charlie having the issues with his earpiece, but overall it sounded fine to me. Obviously being at the sound desk helped!

we were on barrier by bassist so had a lot of stage amps, like i said though, only lastd 2/3 songs

Anyone else see the tool in black wife beater, shaved head, off his tits, the bassist noticed him and got security to throw him out

New album available for pre order, fully signed copies for £9.99

    http://www.bbs.earache.com/

Love it when bands do signed copies for the same price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 223 ✭✭peterobrien100

Cheers for that great value and signed as well !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭blastman

Hopefully it's properly signed, not just a signed card added in, which I feel is a bit of a cheat. Blackberry Smoke seem to have been good on this score with previous albums, though.

Was watching him alright. Whole band was keeping an eye on him, as were the security dudes upstairs. Bassist gave the nod + he was gone. Dangerous looking asshole too.

I wouldn't have classed him as dangerous looking in Amy way, just a nobhead

I'm pretty sure that was him who was lying asleep, on the steps of the building beside the academy, after the gig.
