Need to get a new rear derailleur...any help?

    Hey guys,

My current rear derailleur is on the way out and I've been advised a new one will solve my problems. It's an entry level Shimano part, as are all the bits on the bike at the minute. I've been looking on CRC at Tiagra and 105 parts and I've been pleasantly surprised by the prices! I have an 8speed bike, but reading online most Shimano rear mech's seem to be 8,9 and 10 speed compatible.

Would I meet any issue's picking a 105 rear mech?

Is it okay to just change this part or is there anything else I should look out for?

Thirdly, what is this cage length about and what is the correct one for me?

Would the above be a suitable replacement?

    Thanks in advance!

105 would be fine and a nice upgrade, buy a new rear derailleur inner cable as well.

Cage length is normally long for a triple up front, if its a double then a short cage should be fine.

pretty easy to fit as you can remove the jockey wheels instead of the chain

Thanks for that info, not being picky but that link states a medium or short cage, will short still be fine for my double? :)

After a mechanical today I am in the same boat. I think the RD is a Claris 2400 and read a 9 speed is not best match
