Hi, found out y'day I need a Sigmoidoscopy as a precautionary measure just to make sure there's nothing wrong.

I have it in a few weeks, but wasn't given much info about it so Just wondering what it entails, and mainly is it painful?

When I had it done was given an enema to hold in for about two minutes while lying on hospital bed.
Then came the sudden urge to go , so straight to bathroom which was beside bed.
Back to the bed then and then got brought to scope room
Wasn't given any sedation for this procedure.
They will insert a tube first to inflate your bowel with some air then in goes the camera.
It isn't that painful just uncomfortable
But I had some inflammation so was sore when camera went around bends
They might be able to give you an idea what's wrong then and there
You will feel really bloated afterwards from the air.
It will come out soon enough
Hope it goes well for you :)

thanks for that.. Is it a procedure where you'll be able to get back to normal (i.e work) straight away the next day?
