Hi all, hope I am posting in the right place. We have a Nestor Martin Oxford 73 OIL stove, which was in the house when we bought it. Once lit, there are 6 levels of heat, 1 being the lowest setting and 6 being the highest. We run it at level 1 all the time....if anyone has an oil stove...and assuming a cost of 85 cent per litre incl vat....how much is our stove costing us per hour....we are having a debate about whether to change over to a solid fuel stove...which would cost 2k all in for the one we want...plus a pallet of wood per year..and some coal...also...if timber is the way to go...does anyone know if someone can convert our oil stove to a multi fuel stove...rather than us having to buy a new stove.....thank you so much in advance!

0.13 litres per hour on low fire, so 11 cent per hour & 0.46 litres per hour on high fire, so 39 cent per hour.

Hi shane..thanks for that...may I ask how did you know the costings...we were told by a guy servicing our stove that is was about .30 cent an hour on low...anyway... I need to convince hubby who is adamant that the stove drinks oil....his assumption based on nothing concrete!!!! Cheers

It will depend on which Toby valve is fitted to that model.
Minimum flow rates are about 0.13 - 0.18 litres per hour on them. Unless it is a very large output, it shouldn't be much higher than that. 5kw stoves would be in this region.
On the Toby valve, there will be a data plate with a serial number/part no.
If you can provide this, I can give you exact flow rates or post a picture of the data plate.
If serviced, the service engineer sets the flow rate on both low & high fire. This is a timed rate for 2 mins into a measured beaker.

Your unit is a much larger unit.
The low fire will use 0.45 litres per hour on low fire (38 cent/hour) & 1.44 litres per hour on high fire (€1.22/hour).

So the gross output of your stove is 14kw. Less the efficiency will give you a net output, but generally about 70% efficiency giving 9.8kw output.

That is a very large oil stove.
