When people give out about crime going up and say the numbers are definitely going down, If you go, “The numbers are going down,” they go, “But the fear of crime is rising.” So ****ing what? Know what I mean? Zombies are at an all-time low level, but the fear of zombies could be high, It doesn’t mean we have to have government policies to deal with the fear of zombies."

Any statistics to show how many of these offences resulted in a conviction?

    Those statistics are clearly massaged.

I know a Chinese girl who works in a massage place near the Four Courts. She does most of the Gardai so she probably does the stats too.

Every few years they change the way they measure crime to look good, I'm calling bs on this one.

Reports of crime could be down.

I'd imagine just comparing one year to the previous is fairly meaningless. You'd have to have a number of years and a consistent trend to be able to draw any worthwhile conclusions from anything surely? That's even if these are genuine decreases in rates of crime rather than some good old fashioned crime figure gerrymandering.

Nice entirely coincidental timing for major news reporting of this for an under pressure justice ministery though. Don't have much else to stand proud about I guess.

I’ll swallow a lie when I have to, I’ve swallowed a few big ones lately. But the stat games. . . that lie, it’s what ruined this department. Shinning up s*** and calling it gold, so that Majors become Colonels and Mayors become Governors; pretending to do police work while the next generation ****ing trains the next how not to do the job.

Have you reason to believe crime levels are not dropping?

Well I for one have been committing more crimes.

Kind of hard to blame people for not believing anything out of the gards' mouth right now to be honest. Given the drop in resources and the shady behaviour that's been exposed recently it'd be retarded to attribute it all to actual drops in offences. I'd be pretty bloody skeptical about that 17% drop in public order offences and damage to the environment being down by 10% for a start, probably has a lot to do with fewer garda stations and bodies on the street.

reminds me of the last budget where pensioners lost their free phone line allowance , word went out that the elderly would have their phones physically removed and joe duffy spent a week ( getting hard ) over the fact that the grey vote were afraid that they were going to loose their phone

    How is this done please?

Could take a report of a crime before whereas now it takes a conviction. Or rather than a conviction it must be a something that merited a jail sentence etc etc. Tis handy and done all the time.

I honestly believe this is how government is ran most of the time, complacent and just doing enough to stop crap boiling up above the surface.

And this "co-indices" with Garda station numbers going from 704 to 564?

Proof positive Shirley it was themselves all along. QED, etc.
