Uncontested presidential races make me sad. =(

Glad/surprised they found someone to run for postgrad education this time.

Like with many years the presidential race was contested, I think he just had it all wrapped up before collecting signatures. He is popular and super organised, I've run a successful campaign with him before.

I find it hilarious that even now the positions of Convenor are paid they still can't get one person from ALL of science or even Ag and Vet to come forward to take an uncontested seat. The union often gets accused of being cliquey and exclusive, but I dunno how much more they could possibly do to incentivise people to get involved.

What exactly is involved as a convenor? Can someone who runs for it still attend college without major interruption or does it require a sabbatical? If it doesn't involve major disruption then it is mad nobody is running for it. I suppose the problem with it is is that it's not well advertised what is involved and expected of candidates.

Its definitely not a sabbatical. You have to attend class rep council every 3 weeks or so, and executive meetings every fortnight or so. You're meant to have a monthly meeting with your class reps.

You have to write and present an officer report for each of those meetings comprising of the things you've done over the course of that period. Usually that consists of just generally helping your faculty society run their ball or charity day, helping your reps with class trips, parties and hoodies or getting stuff done in your building. (Microwaves, kettles, if you're really ambitious a drinking fountain).

Grand old piece of CV furniture for someone who wants a bit of cash.

Well looks pretty likely you'll end with Hynes, Castaneda, Fox and Desay as your officers.

    Couple of notable things.

First female majority in sabbat history.

First time in a long time no sitting member of exec has taken a positiob (in a fairly shocking indictment of the current exec)

One of the academically oldest groups in a while. Hynes and Fox are final years, so they'll be done with their degrees. Castaneda is a post grad. Desay is the odd one out (side note, while she may be the best candidate, I've never understood the need to run so early, you can only get better with age no?)

Welfare Candidate: Do you have a moment to talk?

Me: Not really mate. With respect, I'm genuinely not interested.

Welfare Candidate: Well, if you don't mind, I'll walk with you so!

Me: I'm pretty sure a key part of a Welfare position is listening to people.

    *Silence*
