Insurance problem

I recently changed insurers, my insurance was up on the 17th of March, and had got a quote of 460 for my it which I paid. Following this the new insurer requested a number of documents, one being proof of no claims.

I sent this on to them and they have now got back to me to say that I have had a claim on my policy and they are looking for another 200.

Now back in December someone backed into my car resulting in damage to the front wing, they drove off and I've no idea of who did it.
I wasn't sure what I was going to do as it was only some bodywork damage nothing critical and it is a 17 year old car. Anyway I rand the insurance to find out what the procedure would be and how it would work if I were to claim, as the excess was 250 I told them I wouldn't be claiming. The problem is they have put this down as a claim on my insurance. I still have 2 years no claims bonus as they closed it without paying anything out, however it is still listed as a claim.

So the problem is the new insurer want to add to my premium based on this claim which they say I didn't tell them about, I didn't because as far as I was concerned I didn't have a claim, at the time of getting this policy I still hadn't recieved renewal from previous insurer. Can anyone advise how to proceed or am I just going to have to pay this 200 for not even getting my car fixed.

Edit: reckon this is best placed although might see what answers and get mods to move to insurance if better there

Call your old insurer and get it clarified by them?

Was this incident listed on the proof of no claims that you sent into them? If so, get onto your previous insurers and tell them to get it sorted; what you have described is not a claim and there is no reason for it to show up on the proof of no claims.

They probably didn't close off the claim. Get them to do this and re-issue the NCB. Shouldn't be a problem then

No they had closed off the claim alright, just still shows as having had 0 paid out.
I've been in touch and seems they aren't to willing to take it off. However I have authorised them to talk to my new insurers who will ring them and get confirmation it was just notification and wasn't actually a claim. So should be ok.
