Presentations by the 2 bidders are taking place today in Letterkenny.

Obviously Highland are there, rival bidder is a consortium headed by former Highland boss Charlie Collins.

A second station would be better than bidding for one licence. Highland has needed a shake up for a long long time and is very stale. Competition for listeners would benefit everyone.

The way licences ara awarded in this country relly needs to change. The ex highland radio ceo is bidding for the licence because he has a chip on his shoulder. Remember how Ocean fm slagged off NWR only to turn into a carbon copy of them a couple of years after being awarded the licence.

is the income there to support a 2nd station?

With 65% share for Highland it must be delivering what most of the potential audience are looking for. It has more competition than most with Northern Ireland stations available across most of their area.

i don't listen to it, didn't one of that consortium even ramble about the listeners being unskilled or something like that? how is that relevant if true? they probably realized the people in the areas it serves weren't going to tolerate anything other then the type of service NWR provided to them

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

They like their Local News and Information in that part of the world. While they would be very interested in Northern Irish affairs, on the local station they want local news. I think any half decent station in the area would get a high figure. Competition would be a good thing. I don't know if the advertising is in the area however.

not really. ocean was more slick in their own way and commercial. aiming at a younger audience with some big enough personalities. remember NWR was really an opt out service for MWR in mayo.

a lot of the audience have stuck with MWR as it can still be heard in most of sligo and south donegal..
